Abstract


This research is about the effect of mixing velocity to produce biodiesel from jarakpagar oil (Jatropha Curcas Linneaus). This research have conducted atTechnological Laboratory of Natural Materials and Mineral of ChemicalEngineering of Riau University. The research focusing know to learn effect ofmixing velocity to produce biodiesel from jarak pagar oil using commercial K2CO3catalyst which was blazed in a temperature of 600  ̊C. The biodiesel productionconducted through two phases process i.e. esterification and transesterification withthe mixing velocity 100 rpm, 150 rpm, and 200 rpm during 1 hour for each mixing.The biodiesel characteristic is analyzed methods to Erliza Hambali, and friends;Gubitz, et al; Haas and Mittelbach; and Azam, et al. The research results shows thatthe yielding biodiesel meet to the characteristic quality standard of biodiesel. Thebest mixing velocity is about 150 rpm with density 0.875 g/cm3, viscosity 0,11 cSt,level of water 0.025% b/b, acid number 0.78 mg KOH/g oil, level of free fat acid(FFA) 0.39%, lathering number 195.44 g KOH/g oil, iod number 87.71 g I2/100 goil and cetane number 54.49.
