Abstract

Iron is one of the heavy metals that are hazardous and toxic if measure exceeds thethreshold. Degradation of water quality caused by the existence of which the ironcontent that already exists on the ground because of the layers of soil throughwhich the water contains certain chemical elements, one of which is iron. One ofthe methods to decrease the concentration of dissolved metals, especially heavymetals, namely adsorption. The aim of this research to study the effect of mixingacceleration and temperature of the adsorption Fe metal with zeolite 4A usingapproach of Response Surface Method Central Composite design to obtainoptimum condition the adsorption Fe metal with zeolite 4A. The use of zealite 4Asynthesis from mixing reaction of silica and alumina with volume ratio 60/40,mixing time of reactant 3 hours, and heating time of gel 8 hours was applied foradsorption of Fe metal. The adsorption process of Fe metal with zeolite 4A withmixing acceleration range 300 - 600 rpm and temperature range 30 - 60°C. Theconcentration of Fe ionic analyzed by Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometr y(AAS). The results show that performance of zeolite 4A can adsorp Fe metal about97.439%, and the optimum condition obtained for mixing acceleration was about1230 rpm and temperature at 87°C.
