Abstract

The addition of bacterial cellulose particulate (BCP) to Mater-Bi has been investi-gated. Free-water BCP produced by cultivating Acetobacter xylinum into a glu-cose-based medium was added into Mater-Bi by using mini extruder at tempera-ture of 160oC for 10 minutes. Mechanical test of the sample which prepared indump-bell shape according to ASTM D638 was performed at 50 mm.min-1 withload cell of 1 kN. TGA test carried out at 20-600oC with scan rate of 20oC/minutemeanwhile for morphological analysis performed by using FE-SEM with the acce-leration voltage of 10 kV. Both Young's modulus and elongation at break of thebionanocomposites are signicantly increase compare to pure Mater-Bi. Thermalstability of the samples also improved. However, based on TGA analysis thepercentage of residual combustion of bionanocomposite Mater-Bi/BCP is increaseaccordance with the volume fraction of BCP. SEM images show that reinforcingagent of BCP disributed uniformly into the matrix which result in mechanicallybionanocomposites improved
