Abstract

Peat water is water which have brown color, pH 3 - 5, certain odor. Generally, water resource of Riau is peat-water, like water resources is found in Kualu Vilageof Tambang Regency, Kampar-Riau. People who lived in this village are usingthis water directly, without treatment firstly, this water are used for washingclothes, shower, etc. In this research the peat-water is treated by using peat land andit is converted to be clean water, because peat land very cheap and it can be useeasily. Water treatment for peat-water is done by using coagulation-sedimentationprocess, adsorption process and filtration process. The goal in this research is to getclean water, no color, no odor and tasty, with neutral pH, and the amount of ionicFe3+ dan Cu2+ in peat water are declined. Aluminum sulfate compound is applied asa coagulant in coagulation-sedimentation process meanwhile; peat land is appliedas an adsorbent for adsorption process. Variation of peat land used are 1kg, 2kg &3 kg of adsorption process. In filtration process, sand, brick, coconut fibrous, andgravel are applied with each 10 cm thick respectively, and the thick totally is 40cm. There are several analyses are done before and after Peat-water treatment, suchas pH, turbidity degree, color, odor, the amount of ionic Fe3+ & Cu2+. Optimally ofquality of cleaning water of this research is obtained under conditions; 1 kg peatland is applied, water condition is found without color, odor and tasty, with pH5.86, also turbidity degree is 2 NTU. The amount of ionic Fe3+ dan Cu2+ beforetreatment are 0,579 dan 0.064 mg/L and after treatment are 0,004 dan 0,0019mg/L which suitable withPERMENKES NO.492/MENKES/PER/IV/2010Standard.
